welcome to life in progress. i’m really glad you are here!
NEW CLIENTS
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, confusing or like one more thing added to an already full plate, especially if you’re already holding a lot.
My job is to make this part simple, supportive, and clear before we even start.
On this page, you’ll find clear steps, practical info, and zero pressure, plus answers to the most common questions new clients ask.
If part of you is whispering, “Maybe I don’t have to do everything the hard way…”
Here’s How We Begin Step By Step
When we begin therapy for anxiety, grief, ADHD, perfectionism, or relationship challenges, I want the process to feel clear, grounded, and emotionally safe.
-
You’ll click the schedule button below and choose a time that works for you. Then I’ll send a short consultation form so we can make the most of our 15 minutes together.
This consult is a no-obligation vibe check. We’ll talk about:
What’s bringing you in
What you want help with
Whether my style feels like the right fit
-
Research consistently shows the therapeutic relationship matters most for meaningful change.
This call gives you space to feel it out before committing.
Also, you can ask anything. Seriously. No awkwardness. No “wrong” questions.
-
If we both feel good after the consult, I’ll send:
An intake form that helps me get to know you, without you having to tell your entire life story in one sitting
A few brief self-assessments to give me a snapshot of what your mental health looks like
You choose how much to share.
This step helps us skip multiple “catch-up sessions” and get to the good stuff faster.Yay for efficiency!
-
In your first full session, we slow down and go deeper.
I’ll ask focused questions, we’ll map what you’ve been carrying, and we’ll start building a plan that fits your brain and your life.
-
Together, we’ll outline:
What you want less of
What you want more of
What progress would look like in real life
Then we revisit goals as your life shifts, because real life changes.
How to Prepare
(Without Overthinking It)
To help you get the most out of our time together, here are a few things to consider before we meet:
Reflect on What You Want:
Maybe it’s anxiety that won’t quit, grief that sits in your chest, ADHD overwhelm, perfectionism spirals, relationship patterns, or feeling emotionally maxed out. You don’t need polished goals. You just need a starting point.
Bring Your Real Self:
Therapy works best when you’re not censoring, minimizing, or trying to be “easy.” If you feel angry, shut down, confused, tired, or numb; bring that. It’s welcome here.
Ask Me Anything:
If something feels unclear, intimidating, or new, ask. My job is to make therapy feel as easeful as possible.

Session Rates
Insurance
(Private Pay, On Purpose)
I’m an exclusive private-pay practice, which means our work isn’t dictated by insurance rules. Instead, it’s shaped by your goals, your pace, and what actually helps.
Why I don’t accept insurance (the short version)
I choose private pay to protect:
Privacy (insurance can request info)
Autonomy (you choose the pace)
Quality (we do what’s clinically best, not what’s “approved”)
Great NewsPrivate pay does not mean you can’t use your benefits.
-
If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a Superbill (a detailed receipt).
It’s a straightforward process that typically involves a confidential fax, email, or portal to send the Superbill to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. I recommend reaching out to your insurance provider, using the phone number on your insurance card, to inquire about “out-of-network benefits.” They can provide you with information regarding potential reimbursement based on your plan and deductible. It is important to note that the Superbill will show how many therapy appointments you attended, the cost of those services, any mental health diagnoses that you meet criteria for, and your insurance will have access to this information. We can discuss this further and review it during our meetings so you can make an informed decision that aligns with your needs. -
Many clients prefer not using insurance to allow the utmost flexibility, freedom and privacy because:
You’re not required to receive a mental health diagnosis
Insurance mandates a diagnosis for reimbursement. Private pay means your story isn’t reduced to a billing code.
Your diagnosis won’t become part of your permanent medical record
This protects future life insurance applications, disability claims, adoption paperwork, and certain career paths.
Therapy can focus on growth, prevention, identity work, grief, or relational patterns
Insurance only pays for “treating illness.” Private pay allows deeper, more meaningful work.
Your sessions remain 100% private = no compliance audits
Insurance companies can request treatment notes or summaries. I don’t release anything without your consent, ever.
We can use integrated, creative, and innovative therapy approaches
Insurance restricts what approaches are reimbursable. Private pay lets us use what actually works for your nervous system and your life.
You’re not tied to an insurance panel’s provider list
You choose the therapist who feels like the right fit, not whoever has an open slot.
You get continuity of care even if your insurance changes
Switching jobs, plans, or coverage won’t force you to switch therapists.
We can customize session length to what you need
Insurance often only reimburses 45–50 minutes. Private pay allows 60, 75, or 90 minutes when deeper work is needed.
Your therapy won’t be interrupted by “medical necessity reviews”
No one is evaluating whether you’re “sick enough” to continue.
Your therapeutic goals can evolve without limitation
You’re not locked into a rigid treatment plan created to satisfy insurance requirements.
Bottom line: your mental health isn’t controlled by a company that’s never met you.
Please note that you will be responsible for the full fee at the time of service.
How I Maximize the Value of Your Investment
I keep my caseload intentionally small so your therapy feels personal, focused and useful, not rushed or generic. You get thoughtful, tailored, responsive care, not a therapist who is cramming 30+ clients into a week.
This means having ample availability during the day for those with flexible work schedules, being easily accessible through a secure messaging platform, and sending supplemental resources (e.g., videos, podcasts, etc.) so you can get the most out of your treatment.
Here is what’s included:-
Sessions aren’t “one size fits all.” I adjust strategies, tools, and pacing based on your needs, energy, communication style, and goals.
-
I thoroughly review your intake, history, patterns, concerns, and goals so we start strong and stay focused. Understanding your background and experiences allows us to collaboratively design a personalized treatment plan that matches your specific needs.
-
We set goals early, track progress intentionally, and pivot as your life changes, because real life isn’t linear.
-
Clear tools. Non-judgmental accountability. Flexible routines. Practical strategies. All built for real people living their busy lives.
-
Articles, videos, podcasts, worksheets, only when helpful and never overwhelming. These extra goodies I equip you with will be applicable beyond the context of our sessions and will help you navigate life’s challenges effectively long after our work together.
-
No chaos. No confusion. And definitely no lost paperwork. This is where you’ll conveniently fill out and submit intake paperwork, schedule appointments and communicate with me, making the beginning of our partnership efficient and hassle-free.
-
For adults with busy schedules, travel, caregiving responsibilities, and unpredictable workdays. I strive to accommodate your availability, making access to the support you deserve at the time and place that suits you best.
-
With your permission, I collaborate with prescribers, doctors, and specialists to ensure cohesive, whole-person care. If you or I deem it important in our work together, I will reach out to those professionals.
Rest assured that your privacy and consent are always respected, and any communication with other care providers is done with the utmost sensitivity and respect.

FAQs
-
A question I hear all the time, usually paired with a nervous laugh, an apology, or a “I know other people have it worse…”
Let me be clear: that thought is lying to you.If something affects your quality of life, relationships, energy, mood, or ability to function, it belongs in therapy. You don’t need a rock bottom to deserve support.
My role is to help you:
Understand your patterns
Soften the shame you’ve been dragging around
See the “why” behind what you do
Get tools that actually work for your nervous system
Move toward the version of yourself you actually like being
If you want a space that’s validating, practical, research-backed, and not stiff or clinical, I’m your person.

I offer therapy exclusively online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.
No commute. No rushing. No frantic parking-lot stress. Just genuine support from a space where you already feel safe.Online therapy gives you flexibility, privacy, and comfort, which means you show up more regulated, more grounded, and more yourself.
Bring your favorite blanket.
Bring your coffee or tea.
Bring your pets: I’ve met dogs, cats, and even a snake :)With online sessions, you can meet from:
Your living room
Your office
Your backyard
Your car during lunch
Your couch while your tiny-human naps
If it’s comfortable, private, and has solid Wi-Fi? It works.
-
Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions, for concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma responses, grief, ADHD, perfectionism, and relationship stress.
Many of my clients tell me they feel more comfortable online than they ever did sitting in an office.
When you’re in your own space, wrapped in a blanket, sipping your drink, maybe with a dog snoring in the background, your nervous system settles. And when your nervous system settles, your capacity for honesty, insight, and emotional clarity expands.
This often means:
You open up faster
You feel safer sharing the real stuff
You’re less self-conscious
You’re more attuned to your own needs and reactions
You can access depth without feeling overwhelmed
-
Totally fair. The easiest way to figure it out is to try it.
A quick note about safety
Online therapy is not the right fit if you’re in immediate crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others. If that’s the case, please don’t wait:
Call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
Dial 911
Or go to your nearest ER
You may also text 'HOME' to 741741 to connect with a Crisis Counselor.
Your safety comes first, always.
Life In Progress Psychological Services, PLLC does not offer emergency services.

Sessions happen through a 100% private, HIPAA-secure platform called SimplePractice.
You’ll get a unique link emailed to you before each session, click it, and you’re in.If technology ever throws a tantrum (because it sometimes does), I switch to Spruce, another encrypted, secure backup platform. I’ll send you that link immediately if needed.
If you can stream Netflix without buffering or lag, you’re good to go.
-
Sessions are 50 minutes
Typically weekly or bi-weekly (monthly for maintenance, depending on your goals)
You’ll get your secure link before each appointment
You click → enter the virtual room → we get to work

• A private space
Somewhere you can talk freely without feeling overheard. Your bedroom, office, car (parked), backyard, etc.• A device with a camera + microphone
A laptop, desktop, tablet, or even your phone is totally fine. If it can video call, it can do therapy.• A stable Wi-Fi connection
If you can stream Netflix without freezing or sounding like a robot, you’re good to go.• Optional but helpful: headphones
These can:
– reduce background noise
– make the audio clearer
– create a more connected, focused session
– give you extra privacy if you’ve got roommates, partners, or tiny humans roaming around -
Medication can be incredibly helpful… and it’s never the only path.
Medication can absolutely support the brain in ways therapy alone can’t. For some people, it’s the key that finally gives their mind enough space to actually use the tools we work on. For others, therapy is enough on its own. And for many, the combination of both creates the biggest shift in day-to-day functioning.
I don’t believe: That everyone needs medication, or that taking medication is the “easy way out.”
There are times based on your symptoms, patterns, history, and level of distress when I may gently recommend you consider a medication evaluation as an adjunct to therapy, because your nervous system may need more support than skills alone can give right now.
And if medication is something you don’t want? I respect that fully.
We’ll talk openly about your concerns, the facts, and the alternatives, and we’ll make decisions together based on what feels right for you, not what anyone else says you “should” do.P.S. I don’t prescribe medication myself, however, I’m always happy to connect you with trusted psychiatrists in your area if you ever want an evaluation.
-
As short as possible, and as long as it helps.
My goal is never to keep you in therapy forever. My goal is to give you what you need, help you build capacity, and get you to a place where you feel steady, clear, and confident enough to take things from here.
Most of my clients begin noticing real movement within a few months. A common rhythm looks like:
Weekly sessions for 4–6 months,
Then shifting to bi-weekly,
And eventually tapering when things start feeling less chaotic and more manageable.
Some people love the support, insight, and space therapy gives them and choose to stay longer, even years. Others come in with a few specific goals, meet them, and head out feeling solid. There’s no “correct” timeline.
There’s no universal prescription like “six sessions for this problem.”
Progress depends on things like:How often we meet
Whether you practice tools between sessions
How much emotional load you’re carrying outside therapy
Your readiness for depth, pacing, and change
A natural side effect of high-quality therapy with me is that over time, you’ll start noticing you’re becoming your own internal therapist with skills, language, and self-understanding you didn’t have before. That’s when you know you’re truly ready to taper down the frequency or graduate from therapy.
And one more thing, because it matters:
If you’ve been in therapy “your whole life,” or you’ve been in and out of therapy for years? That doesn’t mean you’re broken, too much, or “not getting it.”
It means you’ve been navigating a lot. It means life has thrown you waves and you kept finding your way back to support. It means you’re committed to your own clarity and stability. And that is something to be proud of.
-
Absolutely. Yes. Always.
I work with couples of all identities, genders, and relationship structures. If you and your partner love each other and want support, you belong here.
This space is intentionally created to be:
Affirming
Inclusive
Nonjudgmental
Emotionally safe
Identity-respectful
Your relationship deserves support that sees you fully and all couples are welcome in my practice.
-
All sessions are by appointment only, which means you get dedicated, uninterrupted time that’s reserved just for you.
Because my practice is fully online, there’s a lot more flexibility built in; no commute, no parking lot logistics, no rushing across town, just you and your device.
My current office hours are:
Monday–Friday
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CSTIf you need something outside this window, feel free to mention it during your consult and we’ll see what’s possible.
-
Your friends and family love you, and they also have opinions, hopes, fears, biases, projections, and sometimes… agendas (even when they don’t mean to).
Talking to them can feel helpful in the moment, but it often comes with:
Pressure to see things “their way”
Advice that doesn’t actually fit your life
Emotional reactions that make you censor yourself
Guilt for sharing “too much”
Fear that they’ll worry, misunderstand, or judge
The risk they’ll bring it up later when you don’t want to talk about it
Therapy is different.
With me, you get your space, not filtered through anyone’s expectations or feelings.A licensed therapist can help you:
See your situation from a new angle
Understand your patterns
Explore what you actually want (not what others want for you)
Learn new skills
Listen to yourself with more clarity
Make decisions without pressure, guilt, or judgment
And then there’s the most important part:
Your Confidentiality Is Protected
What you share with me stays with me, with a few legal exceptions every therapist is required by law to follow:
If you’re in immediate danger of harming yourself and refuse safety or treatment, I must act to protect you.
If you’re threatening serious harm to someone else, I must warn and protect them.
If I suspect abuse (i.e., physical, sexual, emotional) or neglect (or the threat of any form of abuse/neglect) of a child (under 18), elder, or dependent adult, I must report it.
If a court legally requests records (this is rare), I may have to comply.
-
If that’s the type of support you’re looking for, I’m more than happy to provide referral options and point you toward clinicians who specialize in that work.
That said, there are times when it’s helpful for a parent, partner, or another key person in your life to join us for a brief consultation session (usually 1–2 sessions max). These aren’t family therapy sessions, they’re designed to:
Support your treatment
Clarify communication
Help someone in your life better understand what you’re working on
Make sure the people closest to you have accurate, supportive information
If you’re curious whether this might be useful, I’m happy to talk through it and share more details.
